Happy 2023! Wit and Wisdom from Deni Luna on this Special Time of Year

Happy 2023! As you enter the coldest time of the year (believe it or not, it’s the month of February in Seattle), stay positive! Among the benefits of this cold time:

  1. Beautiful sunrises.  Start looking about 20-40 minutes before the official sunrise for brilliant sky views.  Be quick and snap photos because the gorgeous colors won’t last long. These technicolor sunrises happen in winter, when the air is crisp and clear.
  2. Brilliant stars.  The stars are brighter during cold weather, when the atmosphere is more conducive to their visibility. This month we have a rare alignment with several planets in Capricorn.  I recommend a phone app like Sky Guide for quick reference, beginning about an hour after sunset, when these planets will pop above the horizon. Once you find the major planets (they’ll vary throughout the month), you can identify them with your unaided eyes.
  3. Comet watchers can see a recently discovered comet known as C/2022 E3 IZTF) in mid-January until February 2. It won’t be as bright as the historic Neo Wise about three years ago, but this new comet hasn’t been seen since Neolithic times.
  4. There’s another unexpected upside to the cold, crisp winter days. Look to the Scandinavian countries for inspiration. Despite their bitter cold winters, Scandinavians are reportedly the happiest people on earth. The Norwegian term for this “friluftsliv” which roughly translates as “live free” with a feeling of being “one with the air.” The Scandinavian word “luft” connotes an uplifting feeling of “rising” as well as brightness. It’s a particular clear light, absent of cloudiness or obscurity. It means being prepared for cold and recognizing that the weather has a bracing effect.  Whether you take a polar plunge or a walk after dark, enjoy the invigorating crispness.
  5. Winter is a prime time for bonding, whether it’s the company of others or just getting to know yourself, snuggling up with a good book!
  6. While traditional psychology maintains that we suffer Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) due to less sunlight in winter, newer studies show that our brains can be more efficient in winter with less resources. It’s also a time when the more seasoned among us switch into automatic mode, when expertise and experience come to the fore. (See the advice below. Chill).
  7. “Chill.” Less is more. In the words of a Scandinavian Queen who lived 100+ years ago “Take it easy.” Incidentally, she’s on the historical record for ruffling royal feathers with that phrase. The phrase itself is remarkably old, first uttered in 1867 and eventually becoming quite popular.  If you want to know more Scandinavian wisdom or how to make the most of your 2023, come to our live psychic panel this Friday.Hear inspired wisdom from the Norwegians on our psychic panel – and those beyond. That Scandinavian Queen?  She’s been showing up in our psychic mediumship readings this month -- and giving some pretty spot-on advice.  So stay tuned. This year, we’ll be celebrating New and Full Moons with psychic shows. Should be a fun year!
