Dr. Charles B. Jones will speak on his new book from Shambhala, "Pure Land: History, Tradition, and Practice." This is the first book in English for a general readership that outlines the origins and development of the Pure Land tradition from its inception in India through its development in China, Korea, and Japan. Participants will learn about the most widespread Buddhist tradition in East Asia and find out why it appeals to so many.
Pure Land is the most popular form of Buddhism in East Asia and is gaining adherents in the west. Participants will learn about its origin, its historical development, its theory, and its practices.
About Dr. Charles B. Jones:
Dr. Charles B. Jones is a professor at the School of Theology and Religious Studies at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Focusing on East Asian Buddhism, Dr. Jones has published on the history of Buddhism in Taiwan, gentry Buddhism in the late Ming dynasty, Jesuit missions in China, and Pure Land Buddhism.
